Why Cascadia Deaf Nation?

Cascadia Deaf Nation was created in response to deepening sociocultural problems within the current paradigm impacting the greater Deaf communities of colour in the Cascadia bioregion. We realized that Deaf black indigenous People of Colour(DBIPOC*) within Cascadia bioregional areas need an empowerment vehicle to create thriving spaces for them to express themselves in many avenues freely. This is our movement economy.

Cascadia Deaf Nation is a bioregional entity comprising of sovereign communities of Deaf black indigenous People of Colour and their Comrades in solidarity & accomplices in British Columbia, Washington State, and Oregon. Cascadia Deaf Nation is the moment when we need it.

Proclamation of Our Cultural Language Rights:

We recognized that our innate reasons to exist come with our true valuation of our language rights as cultural-linguistic beings. The signed languages we speak are our human rights to be ourselves authentically. This belief guides us to liberate our collective or cultural soul of Deaf Black Indigenous People of Colour and their Comrades in solidarity. This is our journey to our human liberation.
